The Bewitched Sculpture Click to open side panel for more information , located in Lappin Park at the intersection of Essex and Washington Streets, is one of the most prominent modern landmarks in Salem. Unveiled in June 2005, the bronze monument honors actress Elizabeth Montgomery and her iconic role as Samantha Stephens in the classic television sitcom Bewitched. The statue captures Montgomery as Samantha riding a broomstick, framed by a crescent moon.
Reviewers and visitors frequently stop by this spot to capture the spirit of the town's pop-culture history.
The Hollywood Connection: The statue was sponsored by the TV Land network to celebrate the show, specifically commemorating a multi-episode story arc filmed right on location in Salem in 1970.
Historic Controversy: At the time of its installation, the sculpture sparked significant local debate, as some residents and historians felt a whimsical television character trivialized the real tragedy of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials.
